Peppol Migration 2025 for Japan, Australia & Co.

Peppol Umstellung 2025

From September 2025, a new Peppol specification becomes mandatory in Asia. Companies should act now to ensure their e-invoicing processes remain compliant.

What Is the Peppol Migration 2025 About?

On June 11, 2025, OpenPeppol published the new version of the PINT Billing Specifications (Q2 2025 Release). This technical standard defines how electronic invoices are structured and transmitted via the Peppol network.

The key point:
From September 15, 2025, this new version becomes mandatory.
The previous release (Q4 2024) will no longer be allowed.

The migration mainly affects Service Providers – like BESITEC – who operate Peppol Access Points and process invoice data.
However, companies must ensure that their providers are compliant in time, so their invoices can still be transmitted without errors.

The mandatory change applies to the following regions in the Asia-Pacific:

This affects both local businesses and international companies with subsidiaries, customers, or suppliers in these countries.

What Will Change?

While companies may not notice major content changes in their invoices, the technical transmission in the background must be updated. Key changes include:

  • New mandatory data fields and structured formats
  • Country-specific validation rules
  • Introduction or expansion of Message Level Responses (MLR) – notifications that confirm whether an invoice was successfully delivered and processed
  • The old specification (Q4 2024 Release) will no longer be accepted after 15 Sept 2025

What Should Companies Do Now?

The technical migration is handled by the Service Providers. However, companies should take the following steps now:

  1. Check your business relationships: Do you send or receive invoices in/from one of the affected countries?
  2. Review your system landscape: Is your current Peppol provider ready for the new specification?
  3. Coordinate with your IT and providers: Clarify when and how your systems will be tested and updated.
  4. Plan ahead: Don’t wait until the last minute. Allow enough time for testing.
